Jake Morris: Guitar

From the first day I listened to music, my life has been moulded around it. Without music in my life I would not be the person I am today. Although my music taste has varied over the years, I have always had a passion to become a musician.

I was given my first guitar at the age of 5 for Christmas. The gift was given to me by my Father, who has supported me from such a young age, and to whom I owe so much gratitude for never doubting me. He, quite like myself, wanted to become a musician, but gave that all up for a family. Ever since I picked up that guitar 11 years ago he has shown so much enthusiasm towards it. Looking back, I regret not learning guitar until the Christmas of 2011. As of then, I have strived to teach myself guitar to be able to fulfil my aspirations. When I was 9 years old, I started learning to play Piano, despite my enthusiasm to become a musician, I gave up Piano early 2012. After 6 years of playing that instrument, I thought that – given my music taste – I was better suited to play guitar.

Before joining Their Souls For Gold, I was previously involved in other music projects, that played a softer genre than what we are currently involved in. Without success, these former projects collapsed. As a result, I was left without any hope of being a professional musician. Fortunately, my oldest friend and our current scream vocalist Dan Wilson offered me the position of second guitarist, with the approval of my other highly talented band mates. I graciously accepted the role and have been in the band since September 2012. None of my previous projects have had the enthusiasm to amount to that of the members of Their Souls For Gold.

The love I have for the genre we play is unexplainable. I cannot thank Dan Wilson and Kiah King enough for introducing me to this genre. There are so many brilliant bands out there which are inspirational to me, such as A Day To Remember, Asking Alexandria, Parkway Drive, Motionless In White and While She Sleeps. As for inspirational guitarists, I look to characters such as Ben Bruce, Luke Kilpatrick, John Frusciante and Steve Vai.
